What Lies Ahead of Us?
A Seminar on the Images of the Future

All the signs point to the conclusion that in the coming decades humanity will experience changes so radical and potentially so catastrophic that even the answer to the question of its survival seems to be getting less and less obvious. Mass migrations, global military conflicts, and weather phenomena bringing negative environmental impact quite impossible to predict today – that is what lies ahead of us. How is it possible then, during this “end-time” (Günther Anders), while awaiting the “new barbarism” (Isabelle Stengers), to think about the future in any categories other than apocalyptic ones? What kind of political system will be brought out of the extreme events that await us? What are the ways to oppose the most devastating effects of the ongoing changes? At this seminar by philosopher Paweł Mościcki we will look for answers to those questions, focusing mainly on the knowledge about the nearest future and its consequences as it is presented in popular movies.
