Fiona Dove

Fiona Dove has been Executive Director of TNI since 1995. She grew up in South Africa, where she was an anti-apartheid activist from a young age, first active in feminist and anti-militarist organisations as a student, then joining the non-racial labour movement (COSATU) as an organiser from the mid-1980s. She later served as a national negotiator, research coordinator for the SA Commercial, Catering & Allied Workers’ Union, and then as founding editor of the trade union federation’s national magazine. In 1994, she took up a scholarship to complete her studies in The Netherlands.

Fiona holds an MA in Development Studies from the Institute for Social Studies of Erasmus University, Rotterdam, a BA Honours in Industrial Sociology and a BA majoring in Sociology and Economic History both from the University of KwaZulu Natal, and a post-graduate diploma in Evaluation methods from Stellenbosch University.

She serves on the Board of De Goede Zaak (Netherlands),the Pluto Educational Trust (UK), the advisory board of the Erasmus Mundus Master in Global Studies coordinated by the University of Leipzig, and the editorial advisory board of the journal Development in Practice.
