SCUM FESTIVAL OF RAGE

Jill Godmilow

A movie festival that document, express, problematize, manifest anger and opposition to power, system, social and culture order, patriarchy, and capitalism. With particular emphasis on anger, rage, and furiousness, which can be both a derivative of helplessness and revolutionary zeal. The films shown are, therefore, an expression of social boiling, artistic performance, a record of an action or only a metaphorical expression of the state of consciousness. Anger and rage often lead to violence. Violence gives raise to violence and may result in the spiral of rape. It is time to stop it. But also it is the time to take a deep reflection on violence, the correlation between violence with capitalism and the correlation between violence with patriarchy.

In the film program prepared by Jill Godmilow, an American director and activist, we will see documentaries and fiction films not shown in Poland so far, but we will also remember about those we have mistakenly forgotten.

The festival will also include the Polish premiere of the Jill Godmilow’s last movie, SCUM Manifesto – made in Poland and with Polish cast – a replica of the French movie from the seventies. The premiere will be accompanied by a lecture by Agnieszka Graff.

On the first day of the festival, we invite you to a meeting with Jill Godmilow, curator and director, the author of, among others, movies such as “Far from Poland”, “What Farocki Taught”, “Waiting for the Moon”. The retrospective of her work was held at the Museum of Modern Art in 2015, and the movie “Far from Poland” was purchased for the museum’s collection.

Jill Godmilow: “Women who have the sense of civic, are responsible and bold, have nothing but to overthrow the government, liquidate the monetary system…”
