Art and Activism in a Time of Climate Change

Activism in the art world is challenging institutions and museums on their role in society, for example around links to climate-changing companies and others doing harm to people and communities. Alongside this, the creative and inspiring approach to art making, performance and action by artists is informing how activism is taking place in the public realm in the response to the climate crisis and social injustices.

This webinar with Glen Tarman of art collective Liberate Tate will explore these themes with opportunities to learn more about how art and activism is changing in the climate emergency. How has the art world been challenged by new forms of institutional critique in a time of climate change and how has it responded? How do the performances of art collectives such as Liberate Tate and others highlight new modes of performativity and place a spotlight on the cultural institutions we need in the 21st century? What tactics and strategies are emerging from art and activism in cultural institutions and the art world for campaigns and social change struggles that may prove useful as societies emerge from COVID-19?
