RePrezentacje

Through activities on the intersection of art, activism, critical and social practice, we give voice to various groups of people.

The socio-artistic project RePrezentacje constitutes one of the programming currents of Biennale Warszawa. Through activities on the intersection of art, activism, critical and social practice, we give voice to various groups of people, regardless of their background, social and economic status, nationality, age or health condition. The principle behind our work can by summarised by Jacques Derrida’s idea about democracy to come. Because democracy constitutes a never-ending ethical project, it always looms on the horizon – the moment when we decide that it is fulfilled will be the moment when we lose sight of marginalized and dismissed people. However utopian such a vision of reality sounds, the guiding principle of the RePrezentacje project are very concrete, we could even say – positivist activities.

The subject of the first edition of RePrezentacje is education.

We are inspired, among others, by the teachings of Janusz Korczak who believed in democracy and law. It translated into an original educational system, based on democratic procedures, which he implemented in children’s homes he ran. Like Korczak, we work with the awareness that “a child is already a person” and we respect his or her “right to be respected.” We work in several districts of Warsaw (Białołęka, Bemowo, Praga Północ) and cooperate with local entitiesNGOs and public institutions (e.g. the centre for the foreigners, children’s home, local cultural centres).
